Students of Houdegbe North American University,Benin republic (HNAUB) held Pk10,the varsity's location to a standstill on October 1,2013 as they joined over 160 million Nigerians worldwide to mark the nation's 53rd independence anniversary.The celebrations started with a watch-night by numerous students who keenly anticipated the dawn of Oct. 1.At exactly 12:00 am,various goodwill messages,calls and shouts of FREEDOM were exchanged by the excited Nigerians.One of such messages reads: Azikiwe was running and shouting with a loud voice,"Oyibo don go!..Oyibo don go!!".Today we celebrate 53 years since we heard that shout of FREEDOM.Happy independence Nigeria!.
Later on in the day around 8:00 am,students assembled themselves and conducted an independence rally round the school and its environs.They took off from the karifo (junction) leading to the school and paused at the varsity's gate where all stood still and rendered the national anthem before moving to other parts of Pk10.
Prayers were also said for Nigeria in the several campus christian fellowships and mosques with a centralized theme of PEACE.
The last part of the celebrations was the Independence party which put Pk10 in a lock down from when it started till dawn when it finished."It took us over two weeks of tedious planing to pull this through",said Victor Horsfall,one of the event organizers. Nigeria's very own DJ Xtreme all the way from Lagos was on the wheels of steels alongside other student DJs,The party pulled quite a large crowd as both Nigerians and Non-Nigerian's turned up.The party saw upcoming artiste's within the school thrill the audience with their rap skills and lyrical rhymes.One of them, Panache was outstanding as the crowd went wild when he took center stage and performed his new hit track "Mil deux cent(1200)".The party reached its peak when it later got to the dance section which saw the ladies performing wonders with their waists and the guys trying to catch up with their highness.
All in all,this year's independence was a memorable one and happens to be the last some will be celebrating as students of HNAUB,They would have graduated and be representing Nigeria well wherever they find themselves.We pray to live to see another independence anniversary.God bless Nigeria.....Good people,Great nation
